How to Bet on the British Grand Prix

British Grand Prix

The British Grand Prix is always held at the legendary Silverstone Circuit. Organised by the Royal Automobile Club, this Grand Prix has been continuously featured in the Formula 1 World Championships since 1950. It is a favourite for British fans, as three of the top four most successful drivers in the British Grand Prix are British. Lewis Hamilton won there in the 2008, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020 and 2021 World Championships, leading the record with 8 wins. He is followed by Jim Clark and Alain Prost, who have won here 5 times. Nigel Manston sits in fourth place with 4 wins.

How to Bet on the British Grand Prix

There are many different bets that can be placed on each race in Formula 1. There are a few standard bets that fans can try out if they want to back their favourite drivers, and there are a number of more specific bets that will interest the avid punters

Race Winner

Bets can be placed on which driver will win the race. The drivers with shorter odds are the bookie's favourites to win the race, but in Formula 1 there are a lot of entries so the odds will usually be higher than in other sports. When placing a bet on which racing driver will win the race, it can be useful to check which drivers have raced on the specific circuit before, and which teams have had the most success there.

Podium Finish

This bet is slightly easier to place than the race winner bet. For a driver to achieve a podium finish, they will have to finish the race in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd position. Bets on the favourites to achieve a podium finish will not offer great odds but they have a very strong chance of winning. For longer odds, punters can look for drivers who are not necessarily in the title race, but perform well during the championship. Sometimes these may be the teammates of the title contending drivers, or they may be drivers with cars that have not won a title in a long time but can cause upsets in individual races.

Correct Finishers

Punters who are feeling like they want to try to make specific bets with massive odds, may want to look at the odds offered for the correct finish bets. Here, there may be a few options offered, such as which drivers will finish first and second, or which drivers will achieve podium finishes. It is far harder to predict which two or three drivers will finish the race in the top positions, but it can be even harder if the order of the finish needs to be predicted. If this bet is available for a race, it usually offers a handful of options. There may not necessarily be every single finish possibility, but the most likely ones will be available. Even the most predictable result will have huge odds, meaning that these can even be placed as side bets for punters, and can still win a lot of money if the correct finish is predicted.

Which Car Will Win

The title winning drivers are famous worldwide, but so are their teams and the cars with which they drive. Usually, teams have two drivers who work together to try and win the championship for the manufacturer. There is usually one driver who is aiming for the title, whilst the other one is trying to win races to make it tougher on any other teams with title winning aspirations. Car constructors, or teams, such as Ferrari, McLaren-Mercedes, Mercedes, Red Bull Racing RBPT, Aston Martin Aramco-Mercedes and more can be bet on. This will mean that either driver from the team should win the race for the bet to come through.

Which Country Will Win

Bets can be put on the nationality of the winning driver. This bet can be useful because some drivers have an advantage when racing in their own country. This advantage may provide the driver with the winning edge in close races, and therefore they will usually be the favourites in this bet, with the shortest odds. The bet can also be placed on a country that has many drivers, but none have necessarily won at the British Grand Prix. Betting on German or Spanish drivers will come at longer odds, but with more drivers hailing from those countries, there may be a chance by force of numbers for a driver to cause a huge upset.

Fastest Lap

It's not directly related to which driver will win the race, but it is always an important statistic. Bets can be placed on any of the drivers to make the fastest lap. To research these bets, it's important to not only look at the title contending drivers, but to check which drivers have had experience on the Silverstone Circuit. The winner of the fastest lap may be the teammate of the title contending driver, or it may be a British driver who has practised on the course for years.

Live Betting

It is also possible to make live bets during Formula 1 races. These bets require fans and punters to have quick decision making skills, and to follow the races carefully. Commentary is also important and can be used to help making live bets. The commentators will call out the timings throughout the race, which can prove to be very valuable information. All cars need to make pit stops at least once during each race to change tires, the commentary may be useful as it provides opinions or bring attention to small details about each car. When making live bets, all of these small bits of information can help make the difference between a winning and losing bet.
