Playing in blue and white, Avai FC is located in Florianopolis in Santa Catarina. The club was founded 99 years ago in 1923 and currently plays at the Ressacada stadium in the Carianos stadium, which can hold 17,800 supporters. The club was founded initially by Amadeu Horn, who was generous to donate kits to local boys who went on to play and win against another local team named Humaita. Initially the club was named Avay, after the famous Battle of Avay. The team went on to become the very first winners of the Santa Catarina State Championship.

Avai has qualified for Serie A, the Brazilian First Division, eleven times since 1974. They won the Serie C title, their only national trophy, in 1998.

More recently, in 2008, they finally managed promotion to Serie A by coming 3rd in the Serie B league championship. This was the first time in 30 years the club had managed to play at this level. What was very positive for the club was that in their first year of playing in Serie A, they finished in an impressive 6th place. This also meant they qualified for the coveted Copa Sudamericana. For the football fans in the State of Santa Catarina, this was the most outstanding achievement of any club of the region.

There have been ups and downs, with the club being relegated in 2011 but just managing to return in 2014

The club’s biggest rivals are Figueirense, who equal Avai, having won the state championship 18 times each!

Bissoli Campos is the highest-scoring player in the Avai team, with an impressive 13 goals under his belt. He has been excellent this season and has played 25 matches.
